
The School of Life Sciences at Tiangong University was established in November 2018, formerly known as the Biomedical Engineering Department of the School of Electronics and Information Engineering. The school focuses on cutting-edge research fields in biomedical and intelligent medicine, as well as major national needs. It conducts basic and applied research in key areas and directions such as medical electronic diagnosis and treatment technology, medical imaging technology, neuroscience, and cognitive technology, cultivating outstanding talents with patriotism, global vision, innovative spirit, and practical ability.
In terms of disciplinary majors, the school has two undergraduate majors: Biomedical Engineering and Intelligent Medical Engineering, among which Biomedical Engineering is a first-class undergraduate major in Tianjin. The school also has a master program in the first level discipline of biomedical engineering,and a professional degree program in electronic information (biomedical engineering field); There is a doctoral program in the field of electronic information (biomedical engineering).
In terms of institutional settings, there are Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Intelligent Medical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering Experimental Center.
In terms of teaching staff, there are over 40 faculty members and more than 30 full-time teachers in the entire institution, including over 20 teachers with senior professional titles. Among the full-time teachers, 100% have doctoral degrees, and over 10 teachers have overseas study experience. One first-level talent of Tianjin 131, one Famous Teacher of Tianjin, 5 third-level talents of Tianjin 131, 3 young and middle-aged backbone innovative talents training programs of Tianjin universities, and 3 young reserve talents of Tianjin. In terms of disciplinary platforms, the college relies on teaching and research platforms such as the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Medical Device Quality Control and Evaluation Technology, the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Detection Technology and System, the Tianjin University Service Industry Characteristic Discipline Group of Precision Diagnosis and Treatment Technology and Equipment, the Tianjin Medical Electronic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Engineering Center, and the Tianjin General Higher Education Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. It has established multiple Tianjin Industry Education Integration Graduate Workstation to provide platform support for scientific research work and the cultivation of high-level talents. The talent joint training practice bases were jointly built with enterprises, institutions and scientific research institutes, such as the Biomedical Engineering Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Suzhou Biomedical Engineering Technology Research Institute, Tianjin BMC Medical Co., Ltd.,Tianjin Hospital of ITCWM Nankai Hospital, Tianjin Chest Hospital, Tianjin Xiqing Hospital, Beichen Hospital of Nankai University, and Tianjin Medical Device Quality Supervision and Testing Center, providing good conditions for promoting the joint training of talents between schools and enterprises.
The school will closely focus on the major needs and disciplinary innovation of the country and Tianjin, refine disciplinary directions, adjust team structure, pay attention to the transformation of achievements, carry out organized scientific research and teaching, and strive to make the college distinctive in research directions such as medical electronic diagnosis and treatment technology, medical imaging and image processing technology, medical signal processing and instruments, intelligent wearables, neuroscience and brain cognition.
The school actively engages in external exchanges and conducts extensive exchanges and cooperation with renowned universities, research institutions, and enterprises both domestically and internationally, such as those in the UK, Australia, and France.
